The directory submission checklist
A practical checklist for preparing business facts, choosing useful directories, submitting carefully, and tracking the result.
1. Prepare the business facts
Collect the exact business and product name, canonical website, tagline, short and long descriptions, categories, target audience, public contact email, pricing model, logo, and any relevant company details.
Use public, customer-safe information. Keep the public contact separate from the Listy-managed operational email used for submissions, verification, billing, and private follow-up.
2. Choose destinations for a reason
Write down why each destination fits: buyer discovery, comparison, reviews, company verification, a niche audience, or a meaningful local presence.
Remove dead sites, unrelated categories, obvious link farms, and destinations whose required fee is not worth the expected value.
3. Check for an existing listing
Search the destination for the business name, website, phone number, and older brand names. Creating a duplicate can split information or make later ownership harder.
Record whether the correct action is find, create, update, or verify.
4. Adapt the format, not the facts
A destination may need a shorter description, different category vocabulary, square logo, or specific service list. Adapt the approved profile to the form while keeping core facts consistent.
5. Handle verification carefully
Use the Listing's Listy-managed operational email and account for private verification. Never expose it as the public business contact, and never treat a sent form as a published listing.
6. Record the result
Save the date, status, public URL, evidence, next step, and any destination-specific notes. Check the live page for errors before closing the task.
7. Revisit important listings
Update high-value profiles when the business name, website, positioning, pricing, contact details, or brand assets change. Not every listing needs constant monitoring, but important ones should not drift for years.
A useful listing has a reason to exist, an approved story, and a result you can verify.
